Our vision for 2023 and beyond

As a long-time board member of the KaiVelo Foundation and a lifetime member of the Berkeley Bicycle Club (BBC), I am thrilled to share with you the great work we have been doing to support youth cycling.

Since our inception, we have raised over $250,000 in cash and equipment for local high school mountain bike teams in conjunction with the BBC. We remain committed to growing our fundraising efforts to make a significant impact, supporting organized youth cycling locally and across the country.

In addition to our support for youth cycling, we are passionate about bicycle racing. Bike racing is exciting and inspires people to lead a healthy lifestyle, dedicate themselves to sports, achieve their best, and aim to win. KaiVelo continues to maintain a master's racing team. The team creates visibility for our mission and serves as a great example of the positive impact of cycling.

Furthermore, we are proud to be associated with Monarch Racing, Presented by KaiVelo, one of the only elite women's bicycle racing development teams in America. Founded by Helen Gilbert-Snyder, Monarch Racing is dedicated to bringing more awareness and attention to women's cycling, which has been underrepresented in the sport for far too long. We fully support the team's efforts to promote women's cycling and make the sport more inclusive.

At KaiVelo, we believe that cycling is not just a sport but also a way of life. By supporting youth cycling, promoting healthy living, and advancing women's cycling, we are committed to positively impacting our community and beyond.

Thank you for your continued support of our mission.

About the KaiVelo Foundation

KaiVelo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation developed from the Berkeley Bicycle Club (BBC) to promote recreational and competitive cycling in the SF Bay Area.

The foundation promotes bicycle use by supporting a master's race team and an elite women’s team, Monarch Racing. The teams are essential to helping popularize the healthy lifestyle associated with bicycle riding, and both are committed to promoting the organization's philanthropic goals.

KaiVelo draws inspiration from the BBC’s long tradition of promoting bike racing, which goes back to 1972 when it promoted the first Tour of California. During that time, many BBC members were pioneers of American bike racing, traveling to Europe to race as some of the first American professionals on the European racing scene. Today, the KaiVelo and the BBC promote the Berkeley Hills Road Race, the oldest continuously-run road race in the United States.

Together the BBC and KaiVelo have raised over $250,000 in cash and equipment for local high school mountain bike teams.

KaiVelo’s mission is to grow those fundraising efforts to make a major impact, supporting organized youth cycling locally and across the country.
